Industry Autopsy
The reviews are in and there are plenty of reaction videos on YouTube going around about the '17 XXL Freshman class. And with the dust now settling I had to let you know that not everybody got my seal of approval. But here are 3 that did. My Top 3 '17 XXL Freshman:
1. AMINÉ
Aminé is arguably the lyricists of the group. He has a unique sound and is able to appeal to a broad audience. He is able to show his versatility to make different tracks like "Caroline" which is a more of a main stream radio hit, while being also able to make tracks like "Turf" which is a deeper concious type of track. Aminé will be someone to keep an eye out for in 2017. 2. KAMAIYAH Kamaiyah is bringing the West Coast feel to the XXL '17 Freshman class. She has reps her city hard and does not conform to the societal pressures of today that woman need to have a certain look. She brings a 90's feel with her music, rapping over many 90's classic hip-hop and R&B beats with a classic 90s warddrone as seen in her video "How does it feel". Her music is a representation of her reality and her originality and ability to stay true to herself. All of this is what will take her far and make 2017 her year. 3. MadeinTYO MadeinTYO is arguably the hit maker of the XXL Freshman '17 Class. With hits like "Uber Everywhere", "Skateboard P", and "I Want" MAdeinTYO is building a catalog that will help him to eat for a long time. He has a self-awareness to his music that lets you know that he knows his lane and knows his lane well. His story about failing and having to move back home, but never giving up on music, and then eventually making it, is an inspiration to all young musicians. And by the end of 2017 I bet he will have plenty of more stories to tell. Let me know what you think in the comments below...
