Lil Uzi Vert also known as the self-proclaimed "rockstar rapper", is the very definition of the new era of rap. The origins  of his name 'Uzi' comes from a fan in the audience that heard him rapping and said he sounded like a Uzi when he raps. The 'Vert', part Uzi came up with himself and stands for the vertical leap to the top of game. His unique personality is what helps him connects with the new generation, but  also clash with some of the older generation's hip-hop purists. For example, in an interview on Hot 97 with DJ Ebro, Lil Uzi made numerous comments about not wanting to freestyle over classic hip-hop beats, most notably ones with a rhythmic drum pattern. For years freestyling over a classic hip-hop beat has been the almost 'rights of passage' and can give an artist the credit from older hip-hop purists. Another common theme with the upcoming generation is a similar flow pattern, which is most commonly compared with Future. Which Future has seem to embrace on his single 'Too Much Sauce', in which Lil Uzi Vert. Though again, many hip-hop purists say your flow is everything and makes you an artist.
