The get down cheat sheet: episode 1

"Where there is ruin, there is hope for a treasure"

Episode 1 is all about character development and introducing the characters that will eventually make up the story based in South Bronx. So keeping it hip-hop fast-forward the love bullshit. The hip-hop part starts with Grand Master Flash talking to Shaolin Fantastic about getting a record for 'The Get Down' later, as well as finding a wordsmith, two things that will be explained a little later. Fast Forward robbing a record store and getting chased by gangs and the main character Zeke getting curved by the same chick twice in one episode, and this weird shootout in the club. We get back to hip-hop. The local block party, where Grand Master Flash is spinning records, and then Shaolin Fantastic passes him the rare disco record. This is where it gets really hip-hop:

The Get Down - Shaolin explains, that the Get Down part of a record may only be about 10 seconds which is made up of mostly the drums, the rest of the record the singing and violins is the useless part of the record. So yea 10 seconds thats the Get Down, but obviously the party lasts longer than 10 seconds, unless the cops show up. So the DJ plays the same record on 2 turntables, while the Get Down part is playing on turntable 1, the same Get Down part is being cued on turntable 2. The moment one finishes the DJ flips the mixer and the beat goes on and on and so does the party.

The wordsmith - also known as the M.C. or Master of Ceremonies or rapper. At first Zeke does the whole 8 Mile choke on stage when handed the mic, and a rival crew begins to start a fight. This is when Shaolin Fantastic jumps in and starts a b-boy battle with the same dudes trying to fight his crew. Then out of nowhere Zeke grabs the mic and starts a rap battle ragging on the whole rival crew. This is the beginning of what is the start of the "The Fantastic Four Plus One."

And there you go episode 1 summed up. So if your friends ask you what happened in the Get Down episode 1. First say, I don't watch Love and Hip-Hop, but forreal this is where we learn about the Get Down, and that I fast-forwarded past all the love bullshit. And don't get curved twice in the same episode, look yourself in the mirror and say I curved her.
