raise you words, not your voice

Here we are, we made it, episode 6 of the Get Down. Thanks for stickin around, a lot has happened on this journey, but lets get into it. Episode 6 starts out with Shaolin Fantastic explaining what an 'Apache line' is. An 'Apache line' is when a gang beats you for a whole song to jump you in. I hope it ain't the Bad Boy Remix cause I almost didn't survive those. Fast-forward past Zeke killing a roach in front of one of the 6 most powerful men in New York,  or the coked out producer trying to eat his way to the top, and also the fact that Shaolin had to kill somebody, so that leaves about 15 minutes. But the final episode is based around two main events: 1) The guy Koch running for mayor and is throwing a political promotional event in the burned down part of the projects, and Zeke plays the poster boy for the ghetto kid that wants a better community and 2) the rap battle.
Getting the politics out of the way. The guy Koch goes into this anti-graffiti, anti-hip-hop speech, which has mixed reactions from the crowd. Meaning the old people liked it, but the young people, the people of hip-hop wasn't feelin' it. But that was until Zeke took the stage, expected to back the running mayor Koch, Zeke went a different route by advocating that we listen to the youth. "Listen for the voice of the ghetto cause it crashes down on you" These words are the same words that are written in graffiti on the trains and that the running mayor Koch is complaining about and is trying to advocate against. This is sort of like when LL Cool J started rapping about F.U.B.U. in a Gap commercial. Normal consumers just thought he was rapping, but the hip-hop world knew that LL was sending a message. Back to Zeke's speech finishing with "The young people aren't the problem, their the solution." And this is still true to this day.

We finally get back to hip-hop, and the DJ battle. The Get Down Brothers vs. The Notorious 3.
The get Get Down Brothers are first, but of course there has to be some drama, so Zeke is still at the political event speaking. But the show must go on, so Shaolin starts DJin doing some cool mixes and scratches to get the party going. Until the rival crew the Notorious 3 started turning up there speakers to drown out Shaolins crew and eventually when over the crowd and get the people dancing. It all seems all but over for Shaolin and there crew. and they're on the brink of quitting. when like any movie, Zeke shows up out of no where, like a captain save a ..... crew. And then its back on, the Get Down Brothers start out with there secret chant "Shaolin's the DJ that we call conductor cause Shaolin Fantastic's a bad muther-riki-riki-riki" Then they start doing something that was never seen before at a DJ battle, rappin. But still it's anybody's battle, until they play the secret weapon, the Get Down part of the record that the chic had just made 2 days prior. This really got the people going and dancin, and we see Grand Master Flash looking down from a rooftop with a proud look for his young grasshoppers. It was over the Get Down Brothers had won the dj battle, and with this win it was no doubt that the Get Down Brothers had arrived.

Much has happened in this first part 6 episode series of the Get Down, and now you can tell your friends, yea I seen that shit. And start tagging everybody in TheGetDown hashtags (which tag me on twitter at @Ando_79 let me know what you think). But until next time I say "Get Down".
