So Twitter is always a good place to find some pretty interesting stories. Baller Alert, Black Twitter, Kevin Durant's fake profile, the list goes on. But one story that caught my attention was one from a Tweeter named "Kiran the Nomad" which I have coined as "Step Up 4: The Responsibility". But it ain't no Channi-ng Tatum in this one either just a kid telling the story of how sometimes things are a little more complicated than you think. So here you go, Kiran the Nomad and his twitter story I call, The Step Up.
The reviews are in and there are plenty of reaction videos on YouTube going around about the '17 XXL Freshman class. And with the dust now settling I had to let you know that not everybody got my seal of approval. But here are 3 that did. My Top 3 '17 XXL Freshman:
Just got a pound of that boof, ayy Here we are the end of the road. The 10th and final spot. Voted for by you the fans is no other than XXXTentacion. What? We've been over the name thing and weirdness so yea that still applies. So how? Why? Name.... XXXTentacion. The XXX part stands for his belief that porn is art and he plans actually pans to have his own porno. The Tentacion part is Spanish for temptation. He believes that the purity, the imperfections of a track are what makes a track great, and in many cases has chosen lower quality mixing instead of the higher quality techniques like reverb to clean up a track. Being from Florida XXXTentacion has linked up with ULT with famous '16 XXL Freshman Denzel Curry. He says his music is honest, it's the things people want to say but feel like they can't because of societies disappointment. So here are some facts about XXXTentacion:
Rap Name: XXXTentacion Born: January 23, 1998 (age 19), Broward County, Florida, FL Record Label: Empire Latest Mixtape: Revenge Twitter: @xxxtentacion Otay, pray them niggas go away, We've been talking about how unique the '17 XXL Freshman's names have been. We've seen hoodie's to Playboi's, to PnB's. But one rapper who's name will turn heads, not for it's weirdness, but it's uniqueness, is Kyle. I know what your thinking. A rapper named Kyle.?? Yes Kyle, which happens to be his real first name, and he happens to have a smash hit called "iSpy", with the '16 XXL Freshman, Lil Yachty. But he hasn't always had smash hits. Rap started for Kyle when his dad introduced him to rap when he was 10. 10 really??. And since then he had made 2 projects, but after 2015 and the dropping of his project Smyle, Kyle was at a crossroads in his career. He realized he hadn't blown up like he had expected. So what did he do that changed his whole career? He said fuck it, and started dropping singles every month of which "iSpy" was one of them. 2017 has gotten off to a great start for Kyle only time will tell what's next for him. So here are some facts about Kyle:
Rap Name: Kyle Born: May 18, 1993 (age 24) Northridge, California, Record Label: Atlantic / Indie-Pop / INgrooves Latest Mixtape: Beautiful Loser Twitter: @SuperDuperKyle And I swear I had these thots before I got the fame, Probably the biggest star of the XXL Freshman '17 cover has to be Playboi Carti. So far he has been putting out hit after hit. But as much as he is a star, he also has a mysterious and reserved personality. Anyone who knows hip-hop knows that Atlanta is where it's at, but for Playboi Carti it wasn't until he moved to Brooklyn that his rap career really took off. Playboi Carti wasn't his first rap name, like all rappers there was an evolution, and the first rap name he used was Sir Cartier. But rapping isn't all he wants to do. Like his A$AP label mate Rocky, Playboi Carti has aspirations of getting into fashion and acting. So here are some facts about Playboi Carti:
Rap Name: Playboi Carti Born: September 13, 1996 (age 20) Atlanta, Georgia Record Label: Interscope / AWGE Latest Mixtape: Playboi Carti Twitter: @playboicarti Nawfside cooling, shorty, yeah that's where I stay The Freshman '17 XXL has had some crazy names and MadeinTYO is not the exception. Made in what? MadeinTYO. He gets his name from spending the last part of his Senior year in high school and a few more, living in Tokyo. His song "I Want" was dropped on his brothers SoundCloud page "Royce Rizzy", who at the time had more followers than MadeinTYO. And within 10 days "I Want" took off and became it's own monster by having millions of streams. One of his projects is named "You Are Forgiven (which he also has tatted on his hands) because people that didn't rock with him before and now they do after his success that they are forgiven. And if he keep dropping hits like "Uber Everywhere", and "Skateboard P" then their will definitely be some more forgivens needed. His style can be categorized as turn up and transcends into a lot of different age groups. But that ain't all. Here are some more facts about MadeinTYO:
Rap Name: MadeinTYO Born: April 12, 1992 (age 25) Honolulu, Hawaii, United States Record Label: Warner Bros / Privateclub Latest Mixtape: You Are Forgiven Twitter: @madeintyo Cause we gon' be up all night, fuck a decaf AMINÉ, no not the cartoon, not the Moroccan singer, it's the rapper on the XXL Freshman '17 cover who is looking to make his name just as common as well... Common. But we can't just pass the torch like that, believe me it's levels to the rap game. So who is AMINÉ? He is an American Ethiopian rapper who's song "Caroline", went viral with over 170 million views which helped to generate a lot of buzz. He is a first generation and gets his rap name from his middle name which you guessed it. AMINÉ. But whats great about AMINÉ is that he embraces his culture and has even made songs like "BaBa" which uses Amharic *(which is the official language of Ethiopia) mixed with a little English and takes parts from both of his cultures. Where is AMINÉ from? He is from Portland, OR. I know what you thinking. Do they even rap there? Ask Rasheed Wallace when he played for the Trail Blazers. So yea there's rap in Portland. He has popular artists and other viral YouTubers reaching out, like 50 Tyson. And here's some more facts about AMINÉ:
Rap Name: AMINÉ Born: April 18, 1994 (age 23), Portland, OR Record Label: Republic Records Latest Mixtape: GoodForYou Twitter: @heyamine I know what your thinking. I seen this dude before. OK let's get it out of the way. He was the guy buying Bitcoins in the movie "Dope". But acting isn't the only talent that Kap G is hoping to make it to mainstream media, his recent release "SupaJefe" is hoping to make Kap G a household name. So how did Kap G get his name? His childhood friends had a group called "Kids At Play" so that's where the KAP comes from. And the 'G' comes from the fact that people use to always call him lil G or Lil George, and there you have it Kap G. Kap G is from Collage Park, Georgia and he started rapping in high school which happened to be the same schools OutKast went to. His first studio wasn't the major big time studio his first real studio had him rapping into a RockBand mic and just recording it like that. But Kap G isn't that new, he's been paying his dues and the hard work is paying off with cosigns from some major artists, to going on tour with Chris Brown, to of course the XXL Freshman '17 cover. So get to know him some more with some of more facts about Kap G:
Rap Name: Kap G Born: July 31, 1994 (age 22) College Park, Georgia Record Label: Atlantic Records / I Am Other Latest Mixtape: SupaJefe (2017) Twitter: @TheRealKapG Everybody want money, want the fame and the clothes, Kamaiyah is the only lady on this years '17 XXL Freshman cover. But don't let that fool you because she is holding more than her own and making a name for herself in the process. Crowned the 'First Lady of the Bay', Kamaiyah grew up in East Oakland, a place that hasn't seen a rapper blow up in the city since the great Too Short. Kamaiyah is one of few rappers who actually uses their real name as their rap name and is also known for being one of the most honest artists on Twitter with hold anything back. Everyone says they want something, but Kamaiyah really wanted this, she believed in her dream so much that at times she would take her rent money and go use it to pay for studio time. Now that's truly believing in yourself. Few can say that they have went all-in on their dream like Kamaiyah did, she was soo bought into her dream that she at one point had 3 jobs just so that she could make videos or be in the studio. In a Vice interview in her words she said "When I die, I want to be like, I done did everything that I wanted to do." And with features and cosigns from artists like Travis Scott, Drake, and YG, Kamaiyah's belief in herself is paying off. So get to know her some more with some of facts about Kamaiyah:
