Industry Autopsy
Water on my bitch I keep her wet like my cellphone Unique, that's the word that sums up the XXL '17 Freshman class. And the rapper Ugly god is an example of just that unique. Interesting fact is that Ugly god doesn't think he can rap, but rather his production is what got him to where he's at. But he understands that a certain of rap can get him to where he wants to go. But what about the name? Ugly god? He got his name from being called 'ugly' by girls and then to an extent started embracing this term and making it his own. He didn't blow up over night tho his career started out as a him trying to make it as a YouTube rapper and just trying to make it big off comedy rap. Ugly god is an honest rapper..... well not exactly. He raps about things he doesn't do. Like never smoking weed in his life but raps about it but hey multiple people have a 'creative license' so...Influenced by Soulja Boy Ugly god is also using the internet to boost his career. But admits to never rapping in a studio and ultimately he produces his own music on Fruitty Loops of which he samples old vinyl. Here are some more facts about Ugly god:

Girl you know you the shit XXL Freshman '17 Part 2, and the next up on the list is PnB Rock. I know what your thinking. What? Well let me break it down. PnB Rock's name comes from the intersection of the streets that he grew up on. As he explains it, in Philly the section called "Germantown" is where the streets Pastorius (E. Pastorius St.) and Baynton St. intersect. But PnB is also a common name used for local artists from that area of which PnB happens to be on of these. When you think of Philly you think of hard-core battle rappin, Rocky stairs, and the Ruff Ryder bikes. So it is a surprising fact that PnB Rock broke 4 bones in his foot by falling off a scooter in Miami. But he just like Lil Uzi Vert is not your average Philly rapper/singer, PnB Rock has a very unique and also thru the use of auto-tune, distinct style. And he is already making some major moves with the backing of his label Atlantic. One being already being featured on soundtracks. The Fate of the Furious a.k.a Fast And Furious 8. His track "Black Horses features last years '16 XXL Freshman Kodak Black also signed to Atlantic. And as a true entrepreneur he owns his own burger joint called Burger Lane in Philly. Only time will tell how his story will go. But in the meantime here are some quick facts about PnB Rock:
Rap Name: PnB Rock Born: December 9, 1991 (age 25), Philadelphia, PA Record Label: Empire / Atlantic Records Latest Mixtape: GTTM: Goin Thru the Motions Twitter: @pnbrock They know that's my bitch, that's a fact and she stuck with me With possibly the longest name ever on the XXL Freshman cover, rapper A Boogie Wit Da Hoodie is looking to have just as long of a career. He got part of his name "A Boogie" from reppin the Bronx like in the movie Paid In Full. The rest of his name "Wit Da Hoodie" came from the fact that he use to just roc a lot of different types of hoodies. If you heard any of his music than it's clear especially from his break out hit "My Shit" that auto-tune is a heavy influence and used throughout his music. But this Freshman has also seen some heavy hitters on remixes to his songs. For example Jadakiss remixed "Bag On Me", and Fabolous remixed "My Shit" which is a good look for the freshman. Here are some quick facts about A Boogie Wit Da Hoodie: Rap Name: A Boogie Wit Da Hoodie Born: December 6, 1995 (age 21), Highbridge, New York City, NY Record Label: Highbridge the Label and / Atlantic Records Latest Mixtape: TBA Twitter: @A_BOOGlE It's summertime again and you know what that means, schools out, but more importantly XXL magazine's Freshman cover. You remember last years right? Kodak Black, Lil Yachty, Lil Uzi Vert, 21 Savage, Dave East, etc.. Some of which had an amazing Freshman year. But this is a new class a freshman and we are going to make sure that the XXL Magazines Freshman 2017 class, no matter how new. Some not so young, but just as all freshman must do, they will pay their dues in this game.
The Freshman '17 class includes:
Jay-z, an artist that with just one tweet can shut down the whole internet. And as J's timeline has told his tweets are often like his flows, don't take it at face value because there's always a double meaning. So since Jay-Z has been a little busy (Answer your phone J.) I thought I would do my own interview and call it "The Twitterview" with Jay-Z. Check it out.
Jay-Z your first tweet was on November 22, 2008. Let’s take a look at your first tweet ever. "Everyday Struggle" with Joe Budden, DJ Akademiks and special guest Lil Yachty: Episode 114We are going to be talking about the interaction between Lil Yachty and Joe Budden. DJ Akademiks is literally useless in this interviews and at the end almost bows down to Joe Budden. Here are my thoughts:
Probably the best story every told on twitter comes from @yalljust_myfans But don't believe me, watch the story unfold for urself. My left stroke just went viral. Who knew these 2 bars would bring the game to a complete stand still. There have been more annotators on these 2 bars than an ESPN stat on LeBron James. But why? Why now? King James... No. King Kendrick. Kendrick Lamar to be more specific. Some believe that Kendrick's next album is going to destroy his competition, and this is just the ripple in the ocean before the tsunami comes.
It's almost overWith it being Martin Luther King Jr. Day, and only 4 days left in office for President Obama I thought it would be important to do some reflecting on President Barack Obama's presidential term. 8 years is a long time, but this presidential term seems to be that vacation that you never wanted to end. But the surreal part is that it's almost over. For some kids your the only President they ever knew, and for some people your the only President they ever acknowledged. You gave hope to a nation who never had it. You dodged all the jabs that they tried to throw at you, (and believe me there were a lot of jabs thrown). You promised change whether directly or indirectly, for a nation that needed change directly or indirectly. This moment of realizing that change didn't happen, and the emotions that come with the thought that this may have been our only chance, only J. Cole could some up this emotion is his song "Be Free"...
