For a general who has seen many wars, coming home is something never to be taken for granted. But at the same time coming home can be just as hard as the same wars you just left. For when you come home the same burdens of life like getting a job, paying bills, supporting your family, the things that you left while away at war can become the war. For Pade, a general and Tulsa legend, coming home has been only half the journey, the other half he has been working to make this the "Best Year Ever" or as he has titled his album #BYE.
Pade has not only lived in the growing hip-hop scene but he has helped developed it. And along the way he has learned both the good and the bad while staying dedicated to his craft, something that has not fell on deaf ears. Now his name carries a different weight then it did in the beginning. There is a level of respect when his name is mentioned. There is level of pride, honor, and self-discipline that he carries himself with that is distinguishable in even the most crowdest of rooms. And there is a level of accreditation that comes with his journey, one being that "The Tulsa Voice" has featured and Pade in it's piece "The Wisdom of Grief" (Click here to read the article), and another being his album #BYE which is to be celebrated.
The Award Ceremony/Release Party
The #BYE album release party was more than just another album coming out, more than just another concert downtown. But It was a celebration of the Pade's journey, a journey that he himself had to go through to make it to this very point in time. But as the night went on you realized that his journey wasn't just about himself, but it was about the people, the relationships, the music that truly made the journey that much more possible and that much more worth it. Pade and the Superfriends stood in unison for the music and for each other, and who have collectively weathered the storm and continue to push the culture in the 'Right' direction..
The night had some of the best energy I have ever seen and that anyone could've ever wanted. Here is just a list that doesn't even begin to represent the amazing talent displayed that night.
