lessons in b-boy stancin'
June 3rd marked the 4th anniversary of the 'Lessons In Fresh' event (hosted by Clean Hands), though this time was a little different. Instead of the MCs battling or the DJ battling it out for the title, this was the first time that the b-boys were showcased.
In the beginning of hip-hop the b-boy, not the MC influenced the the culture. This can be seen in such movies classics as 'Wild Style' or 'Breakin'' or even as recent as the movie franchise 'Step It Up'. This is also seen in the Adidas track suits and the classic Adidas sneakers that have forever been placed into hip-hop culture. But the 'Lessons In Fresh' event continues to be a marquee event in the Tulsa hip-hop scene. The venue (The SoundPony) continues to bridge together the gap of hip-hop fans both new and old, as well as exposing non hip-hop fans to different sounds of the town.
The battle was crazy. We talkin real old school. Dancin on cardboard. Head spinnin b-boy dancin. It had that late 80s nostalgic vibe. The b-boys killed it in every since of the word And you could tell from the crowds energy that the b-boys were going all in. This made picking the winner the hard part, and eventually coming down to a tie breaker bonus round. But it can only be one master in this temple. And so he was crowned. And a surprise performance by Tae Hero (check out Tae Hero video below).
So next time this comes around... Grab a drink, grab a friend, and see the city shine.
